Over the past four decades, PRE-heat has evolved into a leader in the heat transfer equipment industry. Don Bergin, a Milwaukee School of Engineering graduate, commenced his career in commercial heating, air conditioning, and sheet metal at the Bergin family mechanical contracting company post-graduation in 1976. Four years later, he founded Thermal Kinetics, Inc., specializing in heat recovery equipment sales.

Recognizing market demand for customized heat exchangers, Bergin established Construction International Inc. in 1984, later rebranded as PRE-heat Inc. in 2000. PRE-heat's expertise led to the development of innovative shell and tube heat exchangers with proprietary expansion systems, meeting industry demands for enhanced performance. Subsequently, PRE-heat diversified its product line, introducing the dimple plate and in-line wave series of plate heat exchangers to cater to evolving customer needs for improved efficiency and flexibility.
